Unleash Your Learning Potential with Tater-Tot-Tutoring-Homeschool
As a special education teacher for over 30 years, I have worked with students with all academic and behavioral challenges. I believe ALL children can learn. It’s up to the teacher to connect with the students and teach them according to their abilities. With overcrowded classrooms, general education teachers cannot provide personalized teaching to guide individual students on the generic learning path. When your child enters my classroom door, they will feel welcome. I meet the individual needs in a safe, structured, and positive environment.
Curriculum Used:
Reading Mastery Plus grades 1-6
Reading Mastery Plus is a complete basal reading program that uses the Direct Instruction method to help students master essential decoding and comprehension skills. The program emphasizes teaching thinking skills and assisting students to acquire background knowledge.
Spelling Mastery grades 1-6
Spelling Mastery is a six-level Direct Instruction series that teaches students dependable spelling skills by blending three approaches: the phonemic approach, the whole word approach, and the morphemic approach. Students LOVE this spelling program!
Reasoning and Writing grades 1-6
Reasoning & Writing is a developmental Direct Instruction language series that teaches students everything they need to know to express themselves clearly and effectively in speaking and writing. Students who progress through the programs receive a solid foundation in critical thinking, and they master strategies for analyzing situations, employing logic, and writing with great precision and clarity. These earliest levels of Reasoning & Writing set the stage for the increasingly sophisticated skill tracks of the upper elementary levels involving expository writing and higher-order thinking.
Connecting Math Concepts grade 1-5
Connecting Math Concepts provides a comprehensive curriculum that combines facts, procedures, conceptual understanding, applications, and problem-solving skills. You can’t build a house without a strong foundation.
Teaching to Mastery
Mastery is at the core of all Direct Instruction (DI) programs. Each DI program is constructed using a small-step design that ensures all students can be taught to mastery every day if appropriately placed in the program. Only 10-15% of a DI lesson contains new material. The rest of the lesson reviews or applies material taught in previous lessons so students can master the material and perform correctly on every task or exercise by the end of a lesson.
