Plan for SMART goals. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Defining these parameters as they pertain to your goal helps ensure that your objectives are attainable within a specific time frame.
We also use tactile resources for children that specifically learn better in an environment where they are able to actively engage the use of their hands and body in the learning process. Tactile learners thrive on physical experiences and benefit from interactive, hands-on activities that stimulate their senses.
Humble Beginnings
After teaching for 30 years in the Oregon public school system, Ms. Chase began volunteering at a local private Christian school in Post Falls, Idaho, in 2020. The school needed a specialist to help with a few lower-functioning students, but there was no money to hire someone.
Chase was assigned five students who were reading below grade level. By the end of the school year, four out of the five students had made grade level. That summer, Ms. Chase continued with the students in her home school classroom. Upon returning in the fall, those students were ready for their next grade and continued with Tater-Tot after school.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, schools were shut down for over a year. Many parents quit their jobs to homeschool their children. Several parents had heard about Ms. Chase and inquired about homeschooling. She designed the shop attached to the garage to be a 20’X21’ classroom. After the COVID band was lifted, several of her families wanted to continue with Ms. Chase as a homeschool teacher. And so, it began.
She provides one-on-one personal instruction for one-hour sessions two or three days a week, serving students grades 1-6 with the basics of reading, writing, spelling, and math. This has helped many parents who want to homeschool but prefer to do other academics, such as science, art, music, and foreign languages.
